Philosophy of hyperlinks

Yesterday I was wondering why the default option of adding hyperlink in WordPress is “open in the same window”, because I didn’t want readers to leave my page by clicking a link casually.

Soon after, I got the answer. Someone said on the forum of WordPress, “if a reader wants to see the link in a new window, he will do it by himself.” This points sounds.

It’s interesting to consider this philosophy together with another article I read several days ago, which told us in 1994, 10% of users in America didn’t even know there is a thing in browser called “scrollbar”, leaving the “open in new window” alone…
