I’ve been playing Ark Nova on BGA (boardgamearena) a lot in the past two years, somewhere between 1500 and 2000 games. That means 1000+ hours.
It’s quite addictive. I stopped for a while, but then started playing arena/season mode. It gave you a score and a rank and reset every 2 (or 3?) months, which made it even more addictive because every X months I felt I could start fresh.
After Wesley arrived, I started feeling bad about playing it. On one hand, I was often interrupted by the baby and had to play while being distracted; on the other hand, when my energy level is low due to exhaustion, I turn to this kind of familiar game to relax, which has become a constant state. Overall, I just didn’t feel it was an enjoyable experience anymore.
I also realized that, as a soft completionist gamer, I don’t really like games that never end. I like to finish a game and move on to the next one.
